FG to Spend N489m on E-government Projects

THE Ministry of Communication earmarked the sum of N489 million for several e-government project in the 2016 budget as part plans to ensure transparency and curb the menace of corruption in governance.

The primary focus is to create sustainable partnerships with Ministries, Departments and Agencies of
Government that would fast-track their transition into the digital platform.

The Ministry of Communications during the year in focus intends to make presentation on the master plan for e-governance to the federal executive council for approval and adoption as national strategy document for the implementation of e-government in Nigeria that will cost government N8 million.

Similarly, the N19, 480,500 million has been pencilled down for media conference on the master plan and roadmap to create awareness about the project to the general public.

To enhance government revenue generation, the Ministry will be spending N18.6 million on the appreciation of E-Revenue Collection Platform. 2. Knowledge of Role Players and Payment Mechanism. 3. Assessment of Gap Analysis. 4. and the Re-Training of Staff.

Government has also decided to invest N18. 6 million on the acquisition of the knowledge of IPSAS Cash Basis, Migration from IPSAS Cash to Acrual Basis, Knowledge of System of Identification And Registration of Assets and Liabilities on IPSAS Basis.

On skill development for the civil servant, the Ministry will spend N18. 6 million on computer literacy knowledge, payments of staff claims through the Gifmis platform, knowledge of treasury single accounts system, the use of NCOA for the preparation of transcript/final accounts. 5. and preparation of periodic management.

The government will further spend over N121.1 million for extension of government service for the wide e-government project as well as N50 million for the construction of ICT Centre In Kisi Local Government Area, Saki West Local Government Area, Iseyin Local Government Area In Oyo North Senatorial District.


According to the National e-Government Strategies, NeGSt, a special purpose vehicle created in March 2004 by the Federal Government through the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA e-government the Nigerian model for implementing e-Government leverages on government’s transformation agenda which includes deliberate programme to nurture the private sector for overall economic development and national competitiveness.
